About Us

Organic, Nutrient-Rich
Eco-Friendly: Ferti Grind

Ferti Grind is a growing Australian first environmental initiative aiding in the reduction of CO2 emissions produced by Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG). We market a nutrient-enriched, 100% organic fertiliser comprising approximately 50% recycled coffee grounds to be used on a variety of indoor plants.

Our mission is to foster a greener future for our planet and plants by eliminating methane (greenhouse gas) emissions from waste coffee grounds prior to reaching landfill. Supporters of our mission can create passive environmental impact with the knowledge that 1% of our Gross Business Sales are directed to Planet Ark in conjunction with 1% for the Planet membership. As Ferti Grind grows, so will our Earth’s low carbon ecosystem.

The Problem – Our love for coffee is creating an increasingly real problem for our environment. A Planet Ark study verified that Australians consume over 6 billion cups of coffee per year, sending thousands of kilos of waste grounds to landfill.
To put this in perspective, across Australia, on average, each Australian is responsible for nearly 2 kg of waste grounds annually. It’s estimated that South Australia alone produces approximately 14,500 tons of spent coffee grounds per year.
The approximate 14,500 tons of waste produced by individuals and the hospitality industry decomposes, creating over 8,000 kg of CO2 (methane or greenhouse gas) emissions, 28 times more potent than regular CO2. Our spent coffee grounds pose significant environmental threats across various aspects of our lives. This includes the costly burden on taxpayers for landfill maintenance, soil acidification, and notably, the substantial impact on flora, fauna, and wildlife. Among these concerns, the most damaging consequence arises from the emission of methane.

The Solution – It’s not all doom and ‘bloom’; Ferti Grind found the solution. We will scale a social and useful material to redirect wasted nutrients into something that truly matters—our planet & plants. Our humble initiative was founded on the tables of local café meet-and-greets, visibly seeing the staggering proportions of waste created by consumers and hospitality businesses. You may not know, but a small to medium café will collect over 30kg of spent coffee ground per week!

Let’s get our knees dirty with the facts and understand why Ferti Grind is the solution. Puck Pellets consist of approximately 350g of waste ground per 700g container; that’s 19.5 double-shot espresso pucks or nearly 20 cups of coffee. Based on the Australian average (approx. 2kg) of waste coffee ground created per individual, purchasing 3x 700g containers of Puck Pellets in a year, you’ve offset half your waste contribution. Purchase 6x, and you’ve recycled 2.1kg and made no waste! Supporting Ferti Grind means you can make an impact, lower your carbon footprint, and passively help environmental charity.

Spread the word about Ferti Grind and help us turn Bean to Green, giving our planet & plants the best ‘shot’ to thrive.

Our Process

1. Collecting coffee waste

Ferti Grind sources Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG) from various Australian waste-generating businesses, primarily hospitality, the largest contributors to landfills. The SCG is then transported to our manufacturer's facility, ready to be processed. We directly interrupt the typical waste cycle of businesses, giving them the opportunity to improve their environmental sustainability plan through recycling and offering Ferti Grind to customers.

2. Microbial Engineering
Procedure

Our manufacturer uses a unique composting process over weeks to treat the waste. This balances the SCG’s pH and diminishes the remaining caffeine left in the spent grounds, ensuring we capture all the best qualities of the material. The SCG is then blended with composted chicken manure and combined with our organic plant stimulants, making Puck Pellets an industry leader in indoor plant fertilisation.

3. Pellet Processing

Using our Australian-sourced ingredients, the materials, once combined, are processed into our easy-to-use Puck Pellets. Our fertiliser pellets are the most efficient use of the vast amount of spent coffee grounds created, making them one of the most effective products to begin offsetting the planet's CO2 emissions.

4. Packaging

Puck Pellets are packaged in durable, airtight, and 100% recyclable containers to ensure our product's quality for longer. Being a bioactive product, it is paramount to keep your container in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Furthering our environmental efforts, we also use 100% recyclable mailing packaging and carbon-neutral parcel delivery, fostering a greener future for all.

5. Application

Follow our labels 'How to Use', utilizing our handy measuring lid to get the perfect tablespoon, easily adding our Puck Pellets to soil or topdressing. Water in well to give our planet & plants the best ‘shot’ to thrive.

6. Results

In a couple of months, you'll begin to see new shoots, flowers, greener leaves, extensive root growth, and a healthy plant able to endure whatever you throw at it. You can rest easy knowing you've done your bit to keep your hard-earned money alive, lived sustainably, passively contributed to charity directly, and indirectly helped our environment consciously.

Organic, Nutrient-Rich
Eco-Friendly: Ferti Grind

Ferti Grind is an Australian environmental initiative helping reduce the world’s CO2 emissions We market a pelletised nutrient rich 100% organic fertiliser comprising approx. 50% recycled coffee ground to be used on but not limited to indoor plants.

Our mission is to eliminate Green-House Gas emissions from landfill destined coffee ground waste to foster a greener future for our planet & plants. Through our efforts we sponsor 1% for the Planet and give 1% of our Gross Business Sales to our nominated environmental organisation Planet Ark who share our sustainability vision for a healthier ecosystem.

The Problem – Our insatiable thirst for coffee although so satisfying is creating a big problem around the globe. Spent Coffee Ground (SCG) is harmful to our environment in biodiverse and economic ways, from expensive tax payer funded landfill maintenance to soil acidification and predominantly methane ‘CO2’ emissions. A recent analysis from a Planet Ark study found Australians consume over 6.2 billion coffees a year and a majority of grounds all find there way to landfill. South Australian landfill alone equates to an estimated 14,500 tons of coffee ground waste that decomposes emitting over 8,000 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. Averaging the coffee waste across Australia, each person is responsible for nearly 2kg of said waste annually.

The Solution – For Ferti Grind the solution was simple, utilise the coffee ground waste in the most social, scalable & efficient way to redirect the wasted nutrients into something that truly matters, our plants & planet. We got to work and engaged our Australian manufacturer to source coffee ground waste from businesses across Adelaide before seeing landfill to biologically engineer our nutrient enriched Puck Pellet fertiliser. The pellets contain approximately 50% Spent Coffee Ground (SCG) and deliver a 5:1 Nitrogen to Phosphorus ratio assuring your indoor plants have the best shot at being bean to green.

By supporting Ferti Grind consumers can lower their Carbon Footprint and Support Environmental Charity passively by fertilising their Indoor Plants with our 100% Organic Product. 1 Bottle = 19.5 Double Shot Espresso Pucks approx. 350gs of Ground Waste, Every 6 Bottles Purchased = 2.1kg of Coffee Waste recycled eliminating over a year of an Australians coffee waste output. The benefits of Ferti Grinds Puck Pellets and Environmental Initiative are astonishing to say the least and with our followers support will help us thrive to make global impact.
